NEW 2009 NATEF e-Learning Policy and CDX
NATEF has announced that e-learning that is completed outside regularly scheduled program hours can count for up to 25 percent of the required hours in any of the automobile specialty program areas.
This initiative provides significant flexibility, allowing programs to continue to meet NATEF guidelines while accommodating competing demands for time in the curriculum. For example, a NATEF program covering the 4 core areas currently requires a minimum of 650 classroom hours. Now this can be reduced to 488 hours with the appropriate e-learning implementation.

To qualify for the reduction in hours, the e-learning must:
- be instructor-managed and student-driven process that enhances and/or supplements learning, i.e. it’s not a substitute for traditional teaching, but an addition to it.
- be used outside the regularly scheduled classroom and lab/shop timeframe, i.e. it can be used in the classroom but to qualify for a reduction in hours it must be part of regular activities outside the class.
- include integrated and scored auditable assessment and reporting in compliance with NATEF’s e-learning general framework criteria, i.e. it has to be capable of providing evidence of use and outcomes.
- be led by an instructor trained in the use of e-Learning.
How CDX Can Help:
- CDX allows you to meet the NATEF requirements, without compromising your programs quality and your students success.
- CDX programs are already being used to supplement classroom delivery in over 3,000 automotive programs. Students get better grades with CDX, in significantly less time. You can be confident that even if you need to reduce classroom time CDX can help you teach the knowledge and skills your students need.
- CDX programs are delivered online, and students can access CDX from any internet connection, from dial-up to high-speed.
- CDX is the benchmark in reporting, tracking time, grades and NATEF tasks and reporting on individual students and class progress.
- CDX training makes it easy for any instructor to integrate CDX into their teaching practices.
