An invaluable tool

We use this system currently for our NVQ levels 1, 2 and 3 learners and find it an invaluable tool, along with other methods employed in the classroom, for the delivery of knowledge and understanding in the full range of systems needed to complete their vocational qualifications.

Not only can tutors deliver training sessions to a group of learners, but an individual can, with a little guidance, take themselves through the menus to work on their own if necessary.

The graphics, questioning and interactive aspects of this package, which we have used for the last five years, have enhanced our delivery overall and been highlighted as good practice by audit inspectors at different times.

We intend to incorporate the system into our IT suite for the further benefit of our learners.

The best interactive learning resource available

We have been using the CDX CD learning systems for many years, and have to say it must be the best interactive learning resource available. We have tried others;  however, pound for pound it offers the best value for money. The initial cost is much the same as others, but the advantages are enormous:

CDX ARK has freed me from the 'death by PowerPoint' syndrome!

I have found the CDX materials to be of very high quality, up-to-date and extremely user friendly. 

In the workshop, for practical work, I have always had difficulty trying to fit students around a particular piece of equipment I'm trying to demonstrate.  It's hard for them to see and hear what’s going on. CDX gives me the opportunity to clearly explain in the classroom, answer questions, and pose questions to confirm understanding.

Allowing the students to subsequently work through the packages at their own pace ensures learning has taken place.  Tests are generally passed first time, but the students know they can always go back and review any material.

Use of ICT (Information and Communications Technology) in the classroom is ‘de rigueur’ in the UK at the moment, looked for by Inspectors and managers alike.  Use of CDX ARK for theory sessions has freed me from the ‘death by PowerPoint’ syndrome!

The written materials, and timesaving testing and tracking systems included in the Mega Pack have certainly improved my life!  No more marking, and excellent student preparation for on-line awarding body external testing. 

The huge bank of practical task sheets have again supplemented material supplied by the Awarding Body, and I feel much more confident in awarding competence in practical tasks.

For any school that wants to deliver a quality Automotive Training Program

Northland Secondary College is more than a typical secondary college. We offer a wide range of dynamic and innovative program options and cater to diverse groups of students. We have been using CDX since 2001 when we re-established the Automotive Training Program and have found it to be an extremely useful teaching and learning aid. We have especially found it useful for students who have various learning difficulties such as: low literacy levels, troubles in reading or comprehending printed materials, students who have trouble to engage especially at the thought of extensive book work, students with dyslexia, and students who need to repeat topics a number of times to fully grasp the principles being learnt. Higher achieving students have also benefited by being able to work independently and progress at their rate and achieve more outcomes in the time they have allocated.

Students have responded very well to the range of videos, worksheets, and methods of explanation and often prefer to as they can proceed at their own pace. The majority of our students have computers at home and have found the free encyclopedia very helpful for study or work at home especially considering it also has the worksheets on it. Many students have also benefited by being able to quickly go back and watch a video again if they experienced troubles while performing one of the tasks.

As teachers we have been able to save reasonable amounts of time and also produce quality materials by incorporating videos and other materials into our theory lessons and class presentations. We have been able to print numerous worksheets that the students follow when carrying out tasks remaining consistent with what they have seen on the computer. We haven’t yet fully explored every aspect of CDX (such as the tracking system) but we would highly recommend it to any school that wants to deliver a quality Automotive Training Program.
